  3. Got it -- Many thanks!

I just had another of those “Sal’s-Saturday-morning-posted-song-jump-up-and-bite-my-memory-in-the-ass” moments.

A few years ago for my wife’s 53rd birthday I gave her Jessie Winchester’s Love Filling Station (Gentleman Of Leisure was one of “Our” all time favourite albums) and in the card I wrote something most likely mushy and certainly used the phrase “Sham-a-Ling-Dong-Ding”

Two months later I’m on the street, my marriage is over and I’m asking -- to quote Fred Eaglesmith -- “what are you supposed to do, when the one you counted on, turns out just can’t do the math?”

So this morning when I saw the link to that Jessie Winchester performance on Elvis Costello, I took a deep breath, clicked play and made it about ten seconds before I had to quit.

Neko Case ain't the only one Jessie makes cry!

Ah … the power of music and the tricks of memory.

  4. That Jesse Winchester track gets me every time. Damned if I don't get misty-eyed by the time I see that tear running down Neko Case's cheek...every single time!

  5. Yeah, I took one more look over my wife's shoulder when she was watching it and had to turn away. It's brutal but just so wonderful. He has cancer, by the way, but the last note on his site indicated he was in remission.

  6. Nice Jesse Winchester tune indeed. I'd never seen that cut from that particular Elvis Costello show... and have you cats ever seen Neko Case's "Don't Forget Me" from the same show? Crikey, I should have listed this as "Great Tune/Towering Rendition" here by Neko - gets me every one of the 82 times I've watched this clip...

  7. Jayessemm,

Thanks for sharing. I had to stop watching that video...I was obsessed...and I just couldn't handle it anymore. That was some major piece of television that few will ever see.

  8. Weird... I have now downloaded the ZIP 3 times and each times when I extract it doesn't show any files... hmm...

    1. Just checked it on my end, and all seems to be okay.

    2. Same problem here. It says the file is 73 MB, but when I unzip it, there's nothing there. Weird.
